The Ryanair Steeple Chase 2023 | Cheltenham Festival

The Ryanair Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase held in the United Kingdom for horses aged five and above. It is contested over a distance of around 2 miles and 412 furlongs (2 miles 4 furlongs and 127 yards, or 4,139 meters) on the New Course at Cheltenham, and there are seventeen obstacles to be jumped throughout the race. The event will take place every year in March at the Cheltenham Festival. When a fourth day was added to the Festival in 2005, it was one of many new races that were included. Prior to this, the Cathcart Challenge Cup was a comparable event held at the Festival, although it was only open to first and second-season chasers.

The Festival Trophy is the event’s official (non-sponsored) name, and it was formerly graded as a Grade 2 race. The Daily Telegraph sponsored the first race, and Ryanair has continued to support it. Since 2008, the event has been classified as Grade 1.
