The Anniversary 4-Y-O Novices’ Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle competition held in the United Kingdom for horses aged four years and older. It is run at Aintree over a distance of approximately 2 miles and 1 furlong (2 miles and 209 yards, or 3,410 meters), with nine hurdles to be jumped. The race is intended for beginner hurdlers and is held each year during the Grand National meeting in early April.
The event was known as the Lancashire Hurdle in the 1960s and early 1970s, and it was afterward known by numerous different sponsored titles. It was classified as Grade 2 for a time until being elevated to Grade 1 rank in 2005.
The Anniversary 4-Y-O Novices’ Hurdle typically contains horses who have previously competed in the Triumph Hurdle, with Pentland Hills winning both competitions in 2019.
